Hector J. Perez is an associate attorney at Bretz & Coven, LLP. He graduated from American University Washington College of Law with a juris doctor degree and earned a Masters of Law degree with a concentration in criminal law. He is admitted to the New York and New Jersey Bar. He is well versed in all areas of removal defense including cancellation of removal, asylum, adjustment of status, naturalization, discretionary waivers, special immigrant juvenile status, and the immigration consequences of alleged criminal conduct. In addition to deportation defense and immigration law, Hector represents clients in criminal defense in New York and New Jersey and in particular post-conviction relief (PCR).

Originally from Westchester, New York, Mr. Perez is of Dominican descent and speaks Spanish fluently. He possesses a passion to serve the immigrant community of New York. During law school, he interned at Ayuda, a nonprofit organization, working with clients that were victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, and/or human trafficking. He also served as a volunteer attorney at Queens Legal Services, a not-for-profit organization that provides high quality legal services to low-income communities in Queens.

Prior to joining Bretz & Coven LLP, Mr. Perez continued his work in complex immigration and criminal matters, with a particular focus on the consequences of an immigrant’s criminal activity. He gained substantial experience in representing clients in criminal court and aiding them to pursue post- conviction relief.
